"I was beaten down," he says in an ABC News interview of Kate, whom he can't sit next to while filming "Jon & Kate" because "I can't sit on someone right now that I despise." "She would hold my kids over my head. I would want to spend time with my mom, and she would say, 'Don't spend time with your mom, spend time with your kids.' Why can't I spend time with my mom and my kids?"

Lorne Michaels is worried about "SNL's" 35th season
"Saturday Night Live" historian Tom Shales visited with Michaels and found that he "can barely hide a world of worry." Why? As Shales explains, "this season seems predestined to be worrisome. There's no election, for one thing. Even more potentially troublesome: Tina Fey is locked into her prime-time hit '30 Rock' (produced by Michaels and based on the tribulations of doing an "SNL" sort of series) and can't come back on any sort of regular basis to do her smashing impersonation of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, even though Palin has shown a knack for keeping her name in the news." PLUS: Kristin Wiig is NOT joining "Weekend Update."

Want to escape from real world problems? Don't watch primetime TV!
Escapism seems to be a thing of the past in this fall TV season. As Matthew Gilbert points out, "If you’re heading to the land of nighttime drama and comedy to be succored by happy endings and secure social roles, you’re trying to get milk from a stone. Best go spend a few hours cruising YouTube for cat videos. A superficial scan of fall 2009 titles – 'Trauma,' 'The Forgotten,' 'Bored to Death,' 'The Good Wife,' the ironically named 'The Beautiful Life: TBL' – suggests as much. And the series’ themes, from sleeper-cell aliens and post-traumatic stress to inadequate doctors, aren’t quite the stuff of lullabies."

Critics are being bombarded with "The Cosbys XXX" and other porn sitcom spoofs.

"The G4 Man": What kind of guys watch G4?

As the Washington Post notes, "The channel offers a window into the attitudes of a particular subset of young Americans. One detects a whiff of D&D in the air and also a bit too much Axe body spray. These aren't exactly dudes. That term connotes guys who get out a bit more often and have a greater interest in spectator sports. The athletic event of greatest interest to the G4 man is a ninja warrior obstacle course."

Claim: Letterman is the last grown-up on network TV

And growing up is the reason why David Letterman has triumphed over Jay Leno, according to Peter W. Kaplan. "Somehow," he says, "without anyone looking, David Letterman has superseded the usual TV categories of comic, or talk-show host, or broadcaster. He paces the stage at night worrying about the Afghan-election recount and generally free-associating about the flies and vultures flapping around in his head. His nightly broadcast from Broadway has become a weird and great American entity unto itself, a blurred throwback, an amalgam of the tradition he came from: Johnny Carson, Edward Murrow, Jack Paar. And the most middle-American of talk-show hosts has become the most New York–centric."

"Sons of Anarchy" enters Season 2 at a "Shield"/"Sopranos" level of quality
As Alan Sepinwall explains, "Entering season two, the 'Hamlet' allusions have more or less gone away and 'Sons of Anarchy' is more purely pulp fiction than it was at this time last year. But if (creator Kurt) Sutter has lowered his sights a bit, he's now unerringly hitting the target. Because 'Sons' is about a criminal gang, and because its creator cut his teeth writing about Vic Mackey, comparisons to 'The Sopranos' and 'The Shield' were inevitable. And where last year those comparisons weren't flattering, now 'Sons' is starting to hold its own against its spiritual ancestors."

Soulless new "Melrose Place" doesn't match up to the original

Too much has changed, says Mary McNamara of the "Melrose" revamp. "The young and the soulless dominate television these days, with the CW's own 'Gossip Girl' and MTV's 'The Hills.' Indeed, creators Darren Swimmer and Todd Slavkin have filled the now iconic courtyard apartments with characters that seem to have been plucked from other shows, 'Grey's Anatomy' perhaps or 'Chuck,' or from failed sitcoms like 'Notes From the Underbelly.'"

"Dancing" and Tom DeLay: Do scandalous politicos make better dancers?

Time magazine why Tom DeLay was chosen — after the show was refused by Bill Clinton's people: "Absent Clinton, DWTS's ideal political candidate is an elected official with a national profile, who has the time and stamina for five hours of rehearsal six days a week. Most incumbents are too busy, most retired politicians are too frail, and most losing candidates are too forgotten. That pretty much narrows it down to someone whose political career was cut short after a big scandal and–since the show's core audience is older women–preferably one that didn't involve infidelity. "The Jay Leno Show" will change TV — whether it fails or succeeds

Leno has landed on the cover of Time magazine, which calls him "the future of television. Seriously!" If "The great Leno gamble fails," NBC will become further decimated, says James Poniewozik. But, he adds, "if 'The Jay Leno Show' succeeds — where succeeding means not getting more viewers than the competition but simply increasing NBC's profit margin — it suggests a TV future in which ambitious dramas become the stuff of boutique cable, while the broadcasters become a megaphone for live events and cheap nonfiction." As former NBC president Fred Silverman puts, it "If the Leno Show works, it will be the most significant thing to happen in broadcast television in the last decade."

Tim Gunn not a fan of "slob" Jon Gosselin's fashion style
