Matthew Weiner had always insisted he'd skip over Nov. 22, 1963 this season — yet there it was in this week's episode. "I thought it was a melodramatic trope the way it had been treated," Weiner says of changing his mind. "And after having lived through 9/11, which is a comparable experience, I didn't want to pretend — especially if I was going to continue on in the lives of these characters — like this wouldn't have had an impact on them."
