Sarah Palin wanted to grill Tina Fey, avoid Alec Baldwin on "SNL"
The former Alaska governor's new book reveals that she wanted to play a journalist who interviews Tina Fey as Palin. But "SNL" vetoed the idea. According to The Hill, the book also reports that Palin's aides "balked at her planned interaction with actor Alec Baldwin." Fox deserves credit for sticking with "Dollhouse"
"The show had its shot, and then some," says James Poniewozik. "Yes, Fox meddled too much early on. The first several episodes of the show forced a case-of-the-week procedural format on it that didn't really fit. But it got a promotional campaign to rival Barack Obama's general election. It got a second-season order with one of the lowest ratings for any renewed broadcast show ever. And once it found its voice, Fox committed to it and, apparently, let it be the show Whedon envisioned." PLUS: Eliza Dushku calls it "the MOST rewarding experience of my career."

Craig Ferguson has one female writer — his sister — and Jimmy Kimmel has one, too — his girlfriend. Jimmy Fallon, meanwhile, has three. David Letterman's first head writer, his ex-girlfriend Merrill Markoe, thinks she might have an explanation for why late-night has become a boy's club, attributing it to "an odd shift toward more boys’ humor" in the ’90s might have kept some women." "The massive popularity of Howard Stern might have had something to do with that," she says.

Bill Clinton weighs in on "Mad Men": It's "great television"
"You ever watch that TV series 'Mad Men?'" the former president asked a Chicago crowd on Wednesday. "If I keep watching this program, will I ever find a happy person? Great television. Good drama. But a lot of really painful reminders in that show about how black people were supposed to run the elevators… were supposed to ask permission before they get on an elevator. The way women were treated is appalling, and only occasionally funny to me."

"Glee" — not "Modern Family" — is the season's best new comedy
But "Glee" gets no comedic respect because it's a musical comedy, as Troy Patterson points out, "and according to TV-biz conventional wisdom, many people feel such revulsion for that genre that they will not read this article any further, much less consider watching an hourlong show. Their loss. At its best, 'Glee' is not just entertaining but elating, dramatizing Breakfast Club-quality teen angst with the aid of tight production numbers covering new and classic popular songs."
