Bill Clinton weighs in on "Mad Men": It's "great television"
"You ever watch that TV series 'Mad Men?'" the former president asked a Chicago crowd on Wednesday. "If I keep watching this program, will I ever find a happy person? Great television. Good drama. But a lot of really painful reminders in that show about how black people were supposed to run the elevators… were supposed to ask permission before they get on an elevator. The way women were treated is appalling, and only occasionally funny to me."

But "Glee" gets no comedic respect because it's a musical comedy, as Troy Patterson points out, "and according to TV-biz conventional wisdom, many people feel such revulsion for that genre that they will not read this article any further, much less consider watching an hourlong show. Their loss. At its best, 'Glee' is not just entertaining but elating, dramatizing Breakfast Club-quality teen angst with the aid of tight production numbers covering new and classic popular songs."
