Stephen Colbert, as Vanity Fair notes, "boosted Wired’s newsstand sales by 38 percent, Esquire’s by 17 percent, Newsweek’s by 16 percent (according to unaudited numbers), and GQ’s by 6 percent … A solo Jon Stewart, on the other hand, hasn’t been as much of a draw on the newsstand." Why the disparity? As Matt Pressman notes, "Stewart is low-key, using sarcasm and self-deprecation to make his points and his jokes. About 34% of Americans cited TV as their favorite medium, up from 27% last year, according to an annual "State of the Media Democracy" report. Internet, music and books came in 2nd through 4th, while movies was among the least-popular choices.

Executive producer/showrunner Clyde Phillips, who has been at the helm of "Dexter" since the episode after the pilot, has decided to leave his job to spend more time with his family in Connecticut. "Dexter" producer: 4th season finale had to raise the bar
"The story evolved and it kind of became inevitable," Clyde Philips says of the shocking final moments. "We knew that we had to do more than kill Trinity. It’s a little bit of a corner that we paint ourselves into. Last year we tried to avoid that and actually I think we didn’t do as well as we could have. We killed off Jimmy Smits’ character (in the 11th episode) of 12 episodes and then we had to figure out what we were going to do in the 12th episode. This season, we knew that we were going to take Trinity out in the 12th episode and we think that the audience knew that, too."
