"I don't think anybody's done anything to Conan," the longtime Jay Leno pal said at the TV press tour on Sunday. "What did the network do to him? I don't think anybody's preventing anyone from watching Conan." Seinfeld pointed to Conan's rating woes: "You gotta hit the ball. They can't hit the ball for you. They can only give you the bat." As for his pal Leno's 10 o'clock show, Seinfeld said, "I think this was the right idea at the wrong time. I'm proud of NBC for trying to do something different. That's just showbiz and you've got to try things." PLUS: Conan is upset with NBC, his people think keeping "Tonight" title amounts to legal maneuvering on behalf of NBC.

NBC confirms Jay Leno is moving to 11:35 — Peacock still wants Conan
"The Jay Leno Show" will end its 10 o'clock run on Feb. 12 and move to 11:35 in a 30-minute format, NBC confirmed today. "It has been performing at acceptable levels for networks, but it did not meet all the affiliate needs," NBC's Jeff Gaspin told critics this morning. Leno "just didn’t meet the needs of our affiliates," Gaspin explained, adding: "I’d have liked nothing more than to give this a 52-week try." He also pointed out that Leno was actually making money for the network. Gaspin said he expects an announcement for NBC's new late-night line-up to be announced by the time the Olympics start in one month. PLUS: Conan will still host a show called "The Tonight Show" if he were to stay, and NBC is hopeful he'll stick with the Peacock. "What was really important to Conan was having the franchise of 'The Tonight Show,'" explained Gaspin. "I came up with this compromise." NBC is also trying to get Jimmy Fallon to agree to the new deal.
