NBC believes it didn't breach Conan's contract — could he be kept off air?
The NY Times is reporting that there will unlikely be a prolonged contract dispute if Conan decides to leave for Fox, but they won't want to pay the $45 million penalty and they could try keeping him from starting a Fox show for a year. The Times reports: "The contract, NBC is arguing, guaranteed Mr. O’Brien would be installed as host of “The Tonight Show” — and unlike many other deals for late-night stars, Mr. O’Brien’s contract contains no specific language about the time period the show would occupy, NBC executives said."

He also listed his options (watch the video), among them: "Convince NBC to let me keep this time slot if I can gain 10 pounds of chin." Conan also said, "Everybody now wants to know what my plans are," he said. "All I can say is, I plan to keep putting on a great show night after night while stealing as many office supplies as humanly possible. I'm gonna rob this place blind."

"NBC said the show performed exactly as they expected it would and then canceled us. Don't confuse this when we were on at late night and performed better than expected and they canceled us.
