Conan doesn't want his NBC-bashing to be muzzled
In addition to the severance pay, talks between Conan and NBC have bogged down over the provision prohibiting Conan O'Brien from trashing NBC, according to TMZ. Conan's reps don't want him to be gagged for a long time. Meanwhile, TMZ is also reporting that "the network believes it can make $40 million in profits off of Leno the first year he's back and that they would lose $5 mil on Conan if he stayed. So NBC views the whole Conan buyout as a net savings."

Conan vs. Leno is a generational battle that NBC is losing
"The reason you're not seeing hundreds of people show up in the rain to support Jay Leno is because his fans are your parents, and they're bundling up and complaining about how their joints hurt when it rains," says Dennis Romero. The Conan vs. Leno fight, he says, is "a battle between generations, with the geeky, brainy, coddled millennial kids clearly weighing-in for O'Brien.
