Howard Stern on "Idol"? It's probably not going to happen
The shock jock yesterday spilled the beans that he had an offer to take over somebody else's show, and Page Six revealed this morning that show is "American Idol." A source tells Page Six, "They know he would be great TV and would clash with the other judges such as Ellen DeGeneres and the contestants. 'Idol' will do what it takes to sign him." But it's probably not going to happen because Stern is scared of flying long distances (that's why he wouldn't do Conan's final week), he is not keen on living in California (he hasn't been on the West Coast since the 90s) and he prefers to stay in New  York, close to his 80-something parents. Howard Stern, at age 56, has also mellowed out — he's big into charity and recently adopted a pussy cat — since embarking on a decade-long relationship with now-wife Beth Ostrosky.  Finally, why would Fox want to put somebody like Stern on a family show that's big in middle America?
