"Treme" is NOT "The Wire"
The New York Times Magazine paid a visit to the New Orleans-set HBO show, where "Treme" is not "The Wire" has become a mantra. "It’s a disclaimer repeated nearly verbatim by so many members of the 'Treme' production staff that it could sound like a talking point — until you actually watch the show," writes Wyatt Mason. "Whereas through its five seasons 'The Wire' built a vivid portrait of urban America as seen through the prism of its institutions and professions — the police department, the drug trade, the dockworkers, the local government, the schools, the press — 'Treme,' though no less focused on the workings and failings of 21st-century American urban existence, tells its story not through a city’s institutions but through its individuals." PLUS: Anatomy of a "Treme" scene and a "Treme" slideshow.
Timothy Olyphant is committed to "Justified," but fears it may become a hit
Says Olyphant: "This is the fear of a television series: When will it end? The other thing that really scares the shit out of me is when something really works for television—and this is true of most media—they’re just going to beat it to death, and be too afraid to kill their babies. The answer is, you cross that bridge when you come to it. I’m in it for the long haul." PLUS: Walton Goggins wasn't supposed to last this long.
