Why aren't TV directors treated with the acclaim as movie directors?

Writers get all the credit in the TV medium, but that doesn't mean that directors have no influence. As Joanna Weiss points out, "on ambitious TV shows—an ever growing category—directors are far more than just baby sitters who tell the actors where to stand.
