What happened when William Shatner met the dad from "$#*! My Dad Says"?
"It's funny," says "$#*! My Dad Says" Twitterer Justin Halperin, "they met each other on the taping of the pilot. It was pretty awesome because Mr. Shatner is a lot like my dad. Mr. Shatner walks up and he's like, 'Hello, sir,' and my dad says, 'Hello, sir,' and they take a picture together. Then they turn around in opposite directions and walk away. (laughs) It was pretty great." PLUS: Shatner says: "We say spit; why can't we say sh*t?"

"Lost" may be the cheesiest show to ever change the face of TV
It's not just the wigs and the spoof-ready acting that makes it so cheesy, says Matthew Gilbert. As he notes, "For a drama that traffics in philosophy, religious allegory, physics, and literary references from Jane Austen to Kurt Vonnegut, 'Lost' has a decidedly B-movie feel. After the remarkably cinematic 2004 pilot episode, set immediately after the Oceanic 815 plane crash, the adventure has been pretty schlocky. On the cusp of the mass release of 3-D TV, with 'Avatar' pulling the art of special effects into the future, “Lost’’ comes off as an especially humble affair."

Shonda Rhimes: "It hurt to write this finale. It literally hurt me"
Shonda says of the explosive season finale: "When I pitched this finale at the beginning of Season 6 (those of you who know me know that I pitch the end of the season first and we work towards it), when I pitched a gunman shooting up the hospital, it seemed fine. Really it did. And then 20 or so episodes later, I started to write it and it did not seem fine. It did not seem fine at all. On an almost daily basis, I would come into work and throw myself down on the sofa in the middle of the office and burst into tears like a…well, like a bitch baby."
It was melodrama to be sure, but it was very well-done melodrama
A great episode, except for Mandy Moore

Parents TV Council outraged by "$#*! My Dad Says"
The conservative watchdog's president says: "CBS intentionally chose to insert an expletive into the actual name of a show, and, despite its claim that the word will be bleeped, it is just CBS' latest demonstration of its contempt for families and the public. There are an infinite number of alternatives that CBS could have chosen, but its desire to shock and offend is crystal clear in this decision."

CBS needed Charlie Sheen: Without him, there wouldn't be a Thurs attack

As Brian Steinberg points out, "While such stuff makes for a good joke, Mr. Sheen's importance to CBS next season has emerged as serious business. Had the network not cemented his participation in "(Two and a Half) Men," it likely would not have been able to mount one of the most aggressive efforts it has made to undermine rival NBC."

So what if the "Idol" Final 2 aren't as compelling as Adam Lambert?
Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze may be lacking when it comes to pizazz, but they are perfectly apt for this season. As Ann Powers notes, "Though it's likely a transitional state, this year's mood of mellow disinterest in diva attitude and ring-grabbing showiness may ultimately benefit 'American Idol.' It may be jarring for longtime Idol trackers, but in a way, the turn away from heroics suits both the continually downscaling music industry and a television program that, though still on top in the ratings, no longer even pretends to claim the center of the pop zeitgeist — partly because there is no bull's-eye left to hit."

"Fringe": "A family soap opera masquerading as a science fiction show"

That's how exec producer Jeff Pinkner describes the Fox sci-fi series' vast appeal. "Survivor's" Russell Hantz likens himself to LeBron James

"By the way," he said, "if anyone in this room can explain exactly what the hell happened four months ago, I am thrilled to hear it. I'll be in the lobby afterwards. I am all ears. The plot to Lost is more plausible than the last year of my life. It makes more sense."

Judges seemed hellbent on pumping up Lee to "Idol" viewers

"Lee’s vocals were giving me chills (or perhaps I was being filled by the Holy Spirit)," Mary T. Kelly says of last night's memorable performance. "I thought he was clear and confident, and I loved the guttural raspy sound of his voice. Gospel singers walked quietly behind him but they didn’t distract me from a few pitchy notes by Lee.  And speaking of pitchy, did anyone else notice that his finish to the song was incredibly weak and definitely pitchy?  You may not have noticed because of the drums at the end.  Those drums were a small miracle for Lee and the judges never seemed to notice. Lee looked noticeably relieved."

"Glee" with Neil Patrick Harris was awesome

"This should go down in the books (or blogs, who reads books?) as one of the best episodes in one of the greatest freshman seasons in recent history," says Bobby Hankinson. "The musical numbers were a mix of processing cheese into something fully enjoyable and taking an established Broadway performance and imbuing it with new emotional context. It's what this show does best when it's in top form. Plus, Mr. Shue didn't rap once."

"The Good Guys": A throwback that doesn't know when it is
"There's the tiniest whiff of satirical potential in the pilot episode of 'The Good Guys,'" says Hank Stuever. "…According to the network, the series will run for a bit this summer and return in the fall, so at least they like it. The first episode is a sometimes energetic effort to rediscover some of that ol' mullety magic, but it's also got the clumsy problems of all pilots, including a tendency to overstate its premise."
The moustache is the best character on the show // A lightweight summer diversion

"Lost's" penultimate was like a thematic episode

"'What They Died For' is a lot of things," says Todd VanDerWerff. "It's a fantastic episode of 'Lost,' one that moves like a rocket. It's a big, relatively well-handled infodump that makes sure we know how everything and everyone fits into the big picture, mostly. It's a reminder that even though the show is going to do big mythology episodes now and again, it's always going to return to the characters we loved from the regular cast. It's an episode that makes sure everyone is in place for the finale. It makes a big case for the flash-sideways as being completely necessary to the series' narrative. In some ways, it's an episode that makes last week's "Across the Sea" seem retroactively much more important (and I'll be very surprised if the finale doesn't make it seem even more important)."
This week's episode made up for all the "half-dozen stinkers" this season
