Will ABC save both "Old Christine" and "Ghost Whisperer"?
ABC boss Steve McPherson said this morning, before CBS' cancelation, that he'd be interested in "The New Adventures in Old Christine." And "Ghost Whisperer" might be too attractive a show to pass up.

Charlie Sheen's new CBS deal is worth nearly $2 million an episode

TV's richest sitcom star will become even richer as part of his new "Two and a Half Men" deal.

ABC boss: "FlashForward" vs. "V" was like "Sophie's Choice"

"It was a Sophie’s Choice," Steve McPherson said of canceling one and renewing the other. "In the end, FlashForward didn’t engage audiences like we hoped. For V, I get more anecdotal calls and emails than any other show on the schedule. A huge part of rebuilding the network is about taking chances. Some shows just don’t work out."
ABC's goals: "More comedy, 10:00 and event television" // Handicapping the lineup

Few "Idol" finalists make it in the music business

"The 15 minutes are up about 12 to 18 months in," says one unnamed manager who has worked with "Idol" alums. You can "squeak by," the manager says with a number of gigs. "In the first year, you can become a local superstar — you're at the state fair, the state Assembly meeting, singing 'God Bless America' at the baseball game."

Jeff Probst: Russell needs to get his life back, "I would have votd for Parvati"
Russell, says Probst, was so out of his mind that he changed history when he said he didn't play to win. Probst also says: "Had I been given a vote, I would have voted for Parvati because she played her ass off.  She zigged and zagged her away through the Samoan jungle like nobody’s business.  I was truly impressed. She handled Russell in a way nobody else could have.  The double idol play was bold.  The subtle social game she played was spot on.  I think she played an overall better game than Sandra."

"Simply put," says Joe Shearer, "these hours comprise what has to be the greatest, bloodiest tale of revenge ever created for broadcast television."

"Brothers & Sisters'" Ken Olin was taken aback by Rob Lowe's departure

"That's a complicated subject," says Olin, who adds: "I'm sorry to see him go. I'm not that comfortable talking about it because I don't really know all the things that happen. For all of us, once it was decided, I think we thought, OK, let's move on."

Who are mockumentary sitcom characters talking to? God!?

Perhaps the stars of "The Office," "Modern Family" and "Parks and Recretion" are having internal monologues or talking to God, unless there really are unseen people filming their every move.

Joss Whedon's "Glee" episode is one of the best hours of TV this season
Tonight's episode with guest-star Neil Patrick Harris is really that good, says David Zurawik.
"If you are one of the phony snobs who says network TV is dead, and you only watch HBO (and maybe PBS), you are one of the folks who really needs to see this episode directed by Joss Whedon ('Buffy The Vampire Slayer') with guest stars Neil Patrick Harris ('How I Met Your Mother'), Idina Menzel ('Wicked') and Molly Shannon ('Saturday Night Live'). And if you are an older snob, try to remember as you sit down in front of the TV tonight what it was like to be in high school and bursting with a need to express your pain and passions."

Why "Lost" sucks

Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, says Simon Abrams, "have ignored, downplayed and selectively fleshed out parts of the show to their whims and have not given viewers anything more than insubstantial hints that there has been an over-arcing plan throughout their stewardship."

Damon Lindelof: "Lost" didn't have a long-term plan through much of Season 1

"We did have a sense that the longer the show went, the more story we could potentially generate based just on the characters' pasts," he says. "But I don't think it was, I cannot now with 20/20 hindsight misrepresent my own personal feelings where I was after the pilot, and even up through the 9th, 10th, 11th episode, which was, I never thought that there was a series there. And it wasn't really until Carlton came in around that time and said, 'You don't really have to worry about what season three is, let's just worry about what episode 10 is.'" Meanwhile, Matthew Perry's "Mr. Sunshine," "Happy Endings" and "Off the Map" will launch in midseason. Not much scared Parvati, not even Russell, whose behavior she gets: "I mean, think about it. Russell has played back-to-back games. He just snapped. Fox optimistic about "Idol's" future, even with lower ratings and no more Simon
Fox entertainment chairman Peter Rice says of replacing Simon Cowell: "we have to find a judge to replace Simon that provides both music credibility and incredible entertainment value."

"Survivor" ought to go back to basics after great all-star season

Chances are that next season will be a letdown after "Heroes vs. Villains," because bringing back polarizing figures this season only served as a bandage to "Survivor's" problems. AS Sarah D. Bunting notes, "almost all the twists that producers have added over the years have complicated the game without making it more interesting. (The idea of dividing the tribes along ethnic lines had some promise but didn't really deliver on it in the end.) I can understand the thinking behind embellishments like hidden immunity idols, or sending players to exile; in theory, it introduces an element of randomness into the gameplay and keeps the contestants (and viewers) on their toes. In practice, though, it shifts the focus of the game from the titular survival to the show's motto, 'Outwit, Outplay, Outlast.'"
