Probst's daytime talk show is set to debut in fall 2012. "I'm fascinated with human nature and thrilled that this show will allow me the opportunity to connect with real people and explore their stories on a personal level," Probst said in a statement. Adds a CBS exec: "Anyone who has seen Jeff on Survivor knows how he connects with people and has an instinct that makes him a natural and compelling host for daytime." Probst will still be able to do "Survivor" since the reality show shoots back-to-back seasons during the summer.
Mary Elizabeth Williams, who was diagnosed with cancer just days before "The Big C" premiered last year, finds Laura Linney's character "cheerleader-level annoying." "I'll grant that because I've seen it in my own eyes," she says, "and those of a close friend currently in treatment for ovarian cancer, I'm more familiar with what the relentless, day-to-day emotional butt kicking of cancer looks like. But as a viewer, I can't help sense Linney (who is also an executive producer) and her writers striking an alienating, forever-smilin'-through-the-tears chord here."
