"Spartacus" star Andy Whitfield dies of cancer
The 39-year-old actor succumbed to non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Sunday in Australia. "We were fortunate to have worked with Andy in 'Spartacus' and came to know that the man who played a champion on-screen was also a champion in his own life," said Starz president and CEO  Chris Albrecht. His wife, Vashti Whitfield, added: "He passed peacefully surrounded by love." PLUS: Lucy Lawless remembers Whitfield, and "Spartacus" co-creator Steven DeKnight says: "The one thing that lifts my heart is that 'Spartacus' exposed the world to his immense talent. I only wish we could have reveled in his accomplishments for many, many years to come."

HBO, Fox, NBC will not air special Sept. 11 anniversary programming
NBC, of course, has football on Sunday night, the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Fox will air reruns of its animated series that night and HBO will show the finales of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "True Blood" and "Entourage." "It was, obviously, thought through," says the head of HBO programming. "We didn't, obviously, choose to have our finales hit on 9/11."
